Congrats Dan!! Good luck at your race!
Just a little update. Day 3 went really well. Dad and I met up with susanne at her apartment and she helped me set up some meetings at different apartments. She also taught me a lot of important stuff, like the definitons of certain german descriptive words regarding apartment listings, that electricity and gas are billed seperately and that they can each be quite expensive, and that there are 2 different types of rent amounts: kaltmeite and warmeite... cold and warm. The warmiete is roughly the cost it would be to keep the apartment warm in the winter. Even for a small space it can be like 150 € per month! Anyway, we went to look at one right away. The locations was great but the actual space was pretty badly planned out. There was a bathroom and the kitchen right as you walked in and then a weird big halway where one could hypothetically set up a couch, then the bedroom was gigantic (and would be very hard to heat). I have till monday to decide, but since i'm hesitating... then obviously i shouldn't get it.
Tomorrow we have an appointment to look at an appartment near a river!! I'm really excited to see this one. Then Monday we have 2 appointments! After the meeting Dad bought Susanne and I lunch and then pa and I went to Oktoberfest...
It was pretty funny to be there. It wasn't a hige thing but there were plenty of people (drunk people) there...haha. It was basically a drunken carnival. Pa and I each had a bratwurst and a beer... it was great. Then we went back to the hotel and crashed.
Today pa and I went to Zoologischer Garten again, but just for breakfast. Then we went to Teirgarten, basically the Central Park of Berlin. It was amazing! I have pictures that I will show to you later. Then we saw the Brandenburg gate, which was right in the middle of a huge festival for German reunification day, which was Friday... It is a HUGE holiday here, and this years marks the eighteenth anniversary of the remarriage of the east and west sides of berlin. Then we walked/took the underground to Checkpoint Charlie... which is the location where American and Russian occupation met during the Cold War. They used to pass of prisoners back and forth there.
Then we went back to the festival to try currywurst, Berlin's most popular street food, which I liked a lot but Dad thought was so so... and of course, had a beer. Then we walked back into Tiergarten to see its canal. It has lots of prertty boats in it, even restaurant boats!
Then we walked back to Zoologischer Garten and bought some necessities. We walked for literally ten hours today, almost non-stop! I think we must have a least covered about ten miles, and we are both sore! hahaha
anyway,
i hope to talk to you soon
tschuss!

I love the updates, Amanda. I can't wait to see the pics! It's a big bonus to be there for the national holiday, although it made it tough to get things done. Good luck with the apartment hunt. It's great that you are weighing the pros and cons. Love you guys,
Mama
p.s. Hey, OJ got convicted and could get life in prison!
