Quick Home Front Update

Well, Maxy (more masculine in spelling than Maxie) went to the pet hospital yesterday. Dad & I thought he ran into something and his skinned was cut open. The vet said that Max shows signs of suffering from seasonal allergies, just like his mom, me. The allergies bother him which makes him scratch his face breaking his skin. He got both cortisol and antibiotic shots and has to take oral antibiotic capsules for 2 weeks. Since he had to be sedated, I asked the vet to clean his teeth too. He seems fine today. He & I both have to avoid pollens now. Yesterday staying in the pet hospital for an hour with other cats and dogs made me get hay fever. I sneezed my head off for hours and had to resort to taking Benedryl which makes me very drowsy. I didn't have a choice. I feel fine today just like Maxy.

I got accepted to the graduate program of Education Foundations at Cal State LA; I didn't apply anywhere else. The advisement I got from Cal State LA made me very excited about their program because it will basically prepare me very well for the Ph.D. Special Ed program without having to take Special Ed teaching courses that most master's programs require. I'm not interested in teaching Special Ed classes at this point. I want to go into education reform eventually, writing programs and policies and preparing teachers going into that field.

I'm still waiting for an answer from pre-doc fellowship and the Golden Key International Honour Society scholarship (I just mailed this one out two days ago). I found two more I can apply to, and they are due in the fall. I hope to get some money. My tuition for a year is under $5000 (even graduate school) so any amount seems big :)

I hope you guys are enjoying your life - learning as much as you can. Stay focused and get your degree(s) timely. Don't be like me - 24 years since I started my first college course and 82 more units than I need to graduate. But I'm proud of myself for getting my B.A. with a 3.8 GPA which has been kept up for 24 years and moving onto higher education. Few people in my category get to do this! By the way, my graduation commencement is scheduled for June 12/13 (I don't know which day it is specifically yet). I have planned not to walk on stage until my master's graduation.

Love ya,
Mama
