It's hard to believe it's 2009! New Year's eve party was different this time...at my friend, Lori's house, enjoying the company of new people we met there. Lori was my classmate in microbiology class and we became very good friends. She is my age with 2 boys (19 and 16 years old). She and her husband renovated, practically rebuilt a 1919 "Spanish Revival" house. It is simply gorgeous. Dad and I were very impressed with the workmanship and good taste. Every door, iron gate, tile, wall, etc had to be specially made, and the furniture matches the period of the house...just very nice!
Lori is a registered nurse, certified chef, culinary art instructor at two high schools, and going to school to become a dietitian. Can you tell why she and I really hit it off? Lori's family is really warm and involved in the community. Their whole extended family was at the party too. It is so nice to make new friends who work hard to advance their lives. Dad had a great time too.
Amanda, it's terrible what happened in Paris; I'm so glad you are safe. Thanks to Ben's gutsy reaction and your smart judgment to get out of there! There are jerks and losers everywhere; we just have to be careful, smart, and courageous. It's just sad that the bystander attitude is so prevalent. Obviously there is a smart way to help someone, but completely ignoring the situation is pathetic. Anyway, you are safe, and you did the right thing.
Let's chat soon before Dan goes back to school. Isabel and Kim are coming to visit us next Thursday, and I invited Mickey and Jason to join us for a night out. But Jason is in Chicago until the 13th. Mickey will join us; it should be fun. Then Dan will return to Yale on 10th. My quarter starts Monday, 5th. I feel too rested, and I am motivated to finish!
Enjoy the new apartment and get back to the routine with a refreshed state of mind.
Happy New Year! Have a GREAT beginning of 2009. By the way Dad & I personally delivered your presents to the family members.
Love you much,
Mama
