I am amazed by the impact the White House has on the value of art pieces. I hope this will boost the living artists too somehow. It seems like no matter what the Obamas choose, they are still leaving out many great artists/artwork. Maybe they can change the collection over the course of their 8 years there!
I read a little about Michelle Obama; she is exactly why someone like me wants to be an educator. She came from an even more modest environment than her husband. Because she was well educated with the right kind of parental support and attitudes of her own, she rose to the top, leading a very fulfilling life. Reading about her seemingly non-thrilling, structured, goal-oriented school-life, I shed some tears of joy hoping that many children, minority or poor, can learn from her and make an extraordinary adult life for themselves. That's the beauty of Michelle, as I see her.
